The Blindness Boot Camp

A high-quality training program with high expectations of its students is a rigorous curriculum which challenges its students to think out-of-the-box, to dream of the seemingly impossible, and to reach for the stars. Those who have attended our three training centers, (Discussed elsewhere in this archive) often refer to them as "Boot camps for the Blind." In addition to teaching the alternative techniques of blindness these centers challenge their students with such activities as rock climbing, skiing, white-water rafting, skydiving, and many other activities to develop high expectations in their students and to teach a positive philosophy of blindness. The following links will provide information to assist blind students wishing to improve their blindness skills or to become more effective students can find the information they need to achieve this and much more within this .

Here you will find a number of means by which you can connect with other blind students for support and encouragement and to make new friends and to perhaps renew some old ones.

Thought Provoker

Thought Provoker is the brain child of Robert Leslie Newman, a blind rehabilitation counselor from Nebraska. Periodically he posts his "Thought Provokers" short essays concerning an aspect of blindness and how to deal with its challenges and invites readers to send comments to him. Responses are compiled by him and some are posted to the Thought Provoker Web Site for visitors to read.

Thought Provoker has an outstanding reputation among blind individuals, colleges, and universities and agencies for the blind. Material from Mr. Newman's thoughts and the responses to them are used by teacher training teachers for the blind, in philosophy classes, at blindness rehabilitation centers, and within the NFB. For his outstanding contribution to bettering lives of the blind Robert Leslie Newman received a Jacob bolotin Award at the 2008 Convention of the National Federation of the Blind held in Dallas Texas. This award is given to individuals and agencies for the blind that have made outstanding contributions to the betterment of lives for the blind.
